Craps History
The name "Craps' comes from the elocution of French word known "Craps", a nickname for the ancient sport of Hazard. Invented in the 16th century, Hazard was being played by players of the European aristocracy before introducing it into the U.S. through the Arcadia colony in French Louisiana.
Initially, it was believed that Craps was devised by casinos just for the gamblers and players to have a good time and divert their despairs, who make significant losses in blackjack or poker. In fact, there is no evidence to prove as where the game was originated from, due to which the history of the game is still unclear.
A theory states that Arabs have invented Craps, since several people believe that the word "Craps", which was derived from the word "Hazard" sounds very similar to Arabic words called "Azzah", which means dice.

In the earlier period, the game was highly popular in European countries and slowly it started gaining popularity in Britain and got popular in France as well. In fact, lavish casinos in England started offering Hazard games in their casinos during the 1600's and many high rollers and players made huge losses in Hazard games.
Originally, the immigrants from France introduced the game in America and slowly it started gaining popularity in New Orleans in the 17th century. However, this game was illegally played in illicit casinos.
The name was changed to Craps, when it landed in the USA. The steamboats of Mississippi River were considered as the popular venues for playing this game. A dice-maker known John H. Winn amended the playing rules of the game greatly and the practice of bent dice was completely annulled with the newly amended version of Craps.
Presently, the huge popularity of Craps is unimaginable. In fact, almost all players in a casino wish to try their luck to make handsome money.
